you're career-driven

Ready to take yourself to the next level?

Is this you?

  • You’re working your way up in your profession and want to accelerate this process.
  • You find yourself getting overlooked for promotion and don’t understand why.
  • You want to position yourself for a management or leadership role, but don’t know how.
  • You want to position yourself to be worth a higher salary (and be able to confidently ask for one), but don’t know how.
  • You’re a new manager and are apparently expected to know how to do this brilliantly without being given enough/any training by your organisation.
  • You’re a new manager with no management experience and you’re feeling overwhelmed.
  • You’re expected to know how to recruit and interview people, but you lack confidence in this process.
  • When you’re interviewing a candidate you’re so focused on doing the interview ‘right’ that you’re not really conducting a meaningful interview where you feel like you’re forming a comprehensive assessment of the candidate.
  • You don’t really know what you’re looking for when sifting through CVs.
  • You don’t know the best way to offer someone a job following a successful interview process.
  • You need to have ‘difficult’ conversations with staff, but don’t know how to do this with confidence (poor performance, behavioural issues, etc.)
  • You want confidence in how to use the probation period effectively and form a confident opinion of a new member of staff.
  • You need to fire someone and you have no idea how to do this well (yes, it is possible to fire someone well).
  • You want to form a confident approach to the appraisal process and get the most from it.
  • You’re getting so bogged down answering questions from your staff that you’re struggling to stay on top of your work.
  • You want to develop your direct reports, but don’t know how to go about this.
  • Your team dynamic isn’t working and you don’t know how to fix it.
  • You have a toxic culture or team member and want to resolve this.
  • You’re already a good manager and you want to take your skills and your career to the next level.

Real-life example

Emma’s initial enquiry:

“Hi Will,

I am thinking about going for some coaching to help me grow and develop within my new role. I have been working in marketing for 15 years and gradually moved up the ladder along the way.

During the past 15 years I have been made redundant 4 times and fairly recently I was out of work for 5 months. I have found that to be a little challenging at times as anyone would, I guess. I am a pretty positive and outgoing person and very determined, but I think I lack confidence at work. I turn 40 in January, so I really want to be happy and confident in my work.

I am starting a new role tomorrow and will be managing a team of 7. I have only every managed around 3 people before and my roles have been mainly hands-on project and campaign management with some strategic input This role will be different as I will need to guide the team and lead the strategy.

I want to do my best and to raise my profile at work in order to be recognised for opportunities and development in the future. I think all too often women are overlooked for opportunities at work and I’m sure there is more I can do to avoid that happening to me.

This is rather long winded, apologies but I would like to have a chat with you about what you do and whether you think you can help me?

Thanks
Emma”

Emma’s testimonial following our work together:

“I began working with Will just over a year ago when I was starting a new position, which held more responsibility than my previous roles. I wanted some coaching around managing a team and keeping on top of a demanding remit.

Will helped me enormously with both the day-to-day challenges of people management and the more longer-term aspects of planning ahead to ensure I maintained focus on how I wanted my career to develop.

Around 6 months after starting the role there were a lot of changes in my work place which impacted upon my position. Will’s guidance and support have enabled me to remain confident, positive and more sure of myself than ever before during this period of flux.

We worked together on a personal development plan and this has given me a structure that I have never had before. When I shared my plan with my manager and showed how I have been pro-actively building on my skills and experience both inside working hours and in my spare time she was able to see something more of my motivation and capabilities than would be highlighted in the standard appraisal process.

I have recently been promoted and am really seeing the benefit of investing in my career and working hard to improve myself. There is something extremely empowering about coaching because it drives you to be the best version of yourself.”
